MAY YU

Violinist • Music Business  • Educator

Home: Welcome

Hey there! I’m May Yu — a Chinese-Canadian classical and jazz violinist, and a Music Business graduate student at NYU, where I also serve as Co-President of the graduate program. I bridge artistic creativity with industry expertise, navigating New York’s vibrant music scene both on stage and behind the scenes.

I hold a Bachelor of Music with High Distinction from the University of Toronto and a Master of Music from the Manhattan School of Music, where I was awarded the President’s Award. As a performer, I’ve served as concertmaster, played solo at venues like Dizzy’s Jazz Club, Apollo theatre and collaborated with musicians across classical, jazz,  hip-pop,  pop, and folk genres.

Now pursuing my Master’s in Music Business at NYU, I’m passionate about music publishing, sync and licensing, brand partnerships, and digital marketing. In addition to my industry work, I love teaching violin to students of all ages, offering lessons in-studio, at home, or online.

Rooted in my experience as a performer, educator, leader, and researcher, I bring empathy, curiosity, and creative energy to every project. I’m always looking to connect, collaborate, and contribute meaningfully to the music community.
