
Biography
May Yu is a Chinese-Canadian classical and jazz violinist and a Master of Music Business student at NYU, passionately bridging artistic creativity with industry expertise in New York's dynamic music scene.
A lifelong musician, May began her journey at age four in Harbin, China. She holds degrees in Violin Performance with high distinction from the University of Toronto and a Master’s from the Manhattan School of Music, where she received the prestigious President’s Award. Her leadership as Concertmaster for orchestras at both institutions refined her musical and organizational skills.
While rooted in classical performance, May's enthusiasm for diverse genres flourished through improvisation and jazz ensembles, highlighted by a featured solo performance with Ingrid Jensen at Dizzy’s Jazz Club. These experiences embody the joyful, creative synergy she brings to every aspect of her career.
May actively contributes to the music industry through diverse roles. As Sync Curator and Publishing Administrator at Sync Musica, she curates sync playlists, researches film/TV projects to align music with brand briefs, and manages metadata to ensure licensing compliance and discoverability. As Music Community Strategy & Programming Intern at DIT, she assists in planning and executing global music industry events, supporting marketing initiatives and building relationships across the entertainment landscape. In her role as Music Creative Intern at Anti Social Camp, May has strategically executed outreach to brands and sponsors, cultivating meaningful partnerships and securing collaborations.
Further enhancing her expertise, as Lead HR and Marketing Intern at A Round Entertainment, she led onboarding and internal communication, streamlining operations, and created research presentations on K-Pop fan marketing strategies for sponsorship and brand decision-making. As NYU Music Business Student Co-President, she organizes student events fostering networking and professional development, while advocating for student needs and building relationships.
Currently pursuing her Master of Music Business at NYU, May is passionate about music publishing, sync and licensing, brand partnerships, A&R, and digital marketing. Through her unique blend of experiences as a musician, teacher, leader, and researcher, she approaches her work with empathy, genuine interest, and optimism. May is driven to gain hands-on industry experience and contribute meaningfully to the music community by supporting artists and fostering impactful connections.
